El the Camino de Santiago It will have a new route and it will be the first on the peninsula to cross the Mediterranean. This route will cover the ancient Via Augusta, and will link Girona with Barcelona.

In this stretch, which will be called Marine Way of the Camino de Santiago, will pass through the Costa Brava and the Maresme. A route that will enter the region to Malgrat de Mar and reaches Montgat.

A route of enormous beauty and the most peculiar, which will go through the Maresme region and other routes worth knowing. And in which a large part of its route will be flat and next to the sea. A simple journey that will probably have multiple pilgrims.

Marine Way of the Camino de Santiago

We are talking about an initiative promoted by the Consorci de Promoció Turística Costa del Maresme with the involvement of the Government of the Generalitat, the Diputació de Barcelona; in addition to and 30 town councils in the Gironès, La Selva, Maresme and Barcelonès regions.

A route that, as we mentioned, will become the first peninsular Mediterranean route that passes along the coast, and that unites the cities of Girona and Barcelona; while crossing the Maresme region.

Thus, the section (derived from the current one that goes from the border with France in Montserrat), will start from Girona, and will arrive at Caldes de Malavella where the fork between the current Via Augusta and the Via Marina appears. On its way it will pass through Fornells de la Selva and Riudellots de la Selva. It will also pass through other towns such as Vidreres, Lloret de Mar and Blanes in the La Selva region, or already in the Maresme through Santa Susanna, Pineda de Mar, Calella, Sant Pol de Mar...
