One of the highlights for any pilgrim who completes the Camino is to visit the Santiago's cathedral, give a hug to the statue of the saint, attend the pilgrims' mass and maybe, if you are lucky, see the botafumeiro fly.

However, pilgrims who do the Camino during these months must be prepared, since due to the restoration works of the cathedral, some of these experiences will not be possible.

Indeed, since January 28, masses and religious services in the cathedral have been transferred to other churches in the city. Specifically, the pilgrim's daily mass has been moved to the church of San Francisco, near the Plaza de Obradoiro (about 300 m.). This means that the botafumeiro will not work during these months either.

Notice that this does not mean that the cathedral is closed. This can still be visited, so pilgrims will be able to continue entering it, as well as visit the crypt, admire the Portico de la Gloria and visit the museum. The only closed visit to the cathedral is the tour of the roofs. The entrance to the cathedral must be made through the Platerías Gate, on the south façade of the cathedral (on the Fonte dos Cabalos side).

According to those responsible for the cathedral, this situation is expected to last about 12 months. For more information:
