Today we echo a pioneering study in the field of psychology and mental health. Many times we have heard pilgrims share their testimony about the effects that doing the Camino de Santiago has had on their daily lives, from a philosophical, self-knowledge and even psychological point of view. A group of researchers from San Joan de Déu Hospital de Barcelona have decided for the first time to study these beneficial effects scientifically.

The study, called Ultreya Project, consists of a questionnaire that pilgrims can fill out online voluntarily. To measure the psychological effects of doing the Camino, participants are asked to fill out the questionnaire three times: before starting their pilgrimage, just after finishing it, and three months later.

The study, led by researcher Dr Albert Feliu, will be active during this year and most likely also in 2020. Pilgrims who wish can participate on the page https://www.estudiocamino.org/
