Since last November, the Museo del Prado in Madrid hosts an exhibition of great attraction for all those interested in the history of the cathedral of Santiago. titled "Master Matthew", the exhibition brings together various statues and pieces made by the medieval craftsman for the now-defunct western façade of the cathedral.

As is known, the current façade of the Santiago's cathedral (the one in the Plaza de Obradoiro) dates from the XNUMXth century, and replaces a previous one, which was originally designed by Maestro Mateo. When said façade was dismantled, some of his sculptures were placed in other places in the cathedral itself, while others were abandoned or became part of museums and private collections. Several of them have been exceptionally brought together in this exhibition, including the sculpture that was found during restoration works last October.

It is, without a doubt, a must for all those passionate about the history of the cathedral, and for those pilgrims who arrive in Spain via Madrid, it can be a valuable stop before heading to their point of origin.

The exhibition will remain open until April 24.
