When talking about the Camino de Santiago, one usually thinks of backpacks, walking sticks and pilgrims on foot through fields and villages. However, it is also possible that some pilgrims during the Middle Ages made this journey by sea... or at least, that is the excuse that four Irish adventurers took when undertaking a similar journey on a naomhóg, or traditional Irish boat.

Dómhnall Mac Síthigh and his three colleagues began this adventure two years ago, starting from their residence in Kerry, in the southwest of Ireland. Rowing and depending on the strength of the wind, they followed the Irish coast until they reached Wales and Cornwall, in the southwest of England, and from there they passed to Brittany (France); From there, it was a matter of "simply" following the French and Cantabrian coast until reaching Santiago.

This year, after two summers at sea, they have completed their odyssey in the Basque Country, and the following year they hope to resume the journey for the third consecutive year, to make the final journey through the Cantabrian coast to Santiago.
