In this neighborhood is where the original nucleus of the city was located. The pilgrims who disembarked in the Middle Ages in El Ferrol on their way to Santiago did so here, more specifically at the Curuxeiras wharf. Walking through the neighborhood today, you can still perceive the character of that original town, a typical Galician fishing village.
From here you can also take a boat for a tour of the estuary.

Built in the XNUMXth century, this castle formed, together with the one in Palma and the one in San Martiño (now disappeared), the bases for the military defense of the city. Stretching a chain from it to the castle of La Palma, the estuary was closed, so that no enemy ship could enter.
