If we recently shared an article in which we talked about how last year the the Camino de Santiago achieved a historical record of pilgrims, it seems that this year is not far behind. And, based on the numbers that have been achieved in the first quarter of 2018, it may even be surpassed.

And it is that, if in 2017, they delivered  301.036 compostelas, the balance made during the first three months of this year is also quite encouraging. In fact, during the first quarter of 2018, 14.865 certificates have been delivered to the reception center in Santiago de Compostela. This is more than 6.000 delivered in the same period during 2017.

Although, it should be noted that this year Easter has squared before, and has still been integrated into this first quarter (except for Easter Sunday, April 1).

Historical figures on the Camino de Santiago during the first quarter

Now, even being aware of having coincided with Easter, the figures for that moment already pointed to a historical record. In fact, during the first two months of 2018, they reached Santiago 1.628 pilgrims in January and 2.181 in February (more than in the respective months of the past year: 1.355 and 1.696)

These figures are surprising even if we compare them with the last Holy Year, 2010, in which the the Camino de Santiago it registered very good figures in the first quarter as it also coincided with Easter between the months of March and April. Since during that quarter 8.710 pilgrims arrived in Santiago (almost 6.000 less than in 2018).

Finally, it should be noted that pilgrims of Spanish nationality have also increased their percentage. Thus, in March, Spanish pilgrims were 56,2% of the total (in 2017 and at the same time they reached 44,2%).
